Pacers swept by Bearcats

In Greenwood, S.C., the USC Aiken men dropped a 3-1 decision to Lander in Peach Belt Conference play on Saturday night.

The Pacers (3-6-1, 1-3) closed to within 2-1 on Driss Baraket's goal at the 45-minute mark of the second half. The Bearcats are 6-4-0 and 3-3-0.

But Lander's Robbie Young responded with a goal eight minutes later in the final score of the match.

In the women's match, Lander beat USC Aiken 3-0, dropping the Pacers to 3-9-0 and 1-5-0.

North Augusta keeps poll spot

North Augusta and South Aiken maintained their spots in the South Carolina Prep Media Poll for the week of Oct. 1.

The Yellow Jackets stayed No. 4 and the Thoroughbreds remained No. 5 in Class AAAA. North Augusta took care of Lower Richland 43-13 to get to 6-0, while South Aiken thumped rival Aiken 51-10 to improve to 5-1 and start the region slate at 1-0.

In Class AA, Barnwell remained No. 2 and received five first-place votes. The Warhorses are 6-0 after routing Calhoun County 56-0 to start the region schedule.

Williston-Elko moved up to No. 5 in Class A after another big region victory, 29-10, over Wagener-Salley. Wagener-Salley dropped to No. 8.

USC Aiken runs win streak to 13

In Aiken, USC Aiken continued to roll, winning its 13th match in a row, stopping Lander 3-1 on Wednesday night.

The Peach Belt Conference front-runners were led by Alie Smith (17 kills), Julia Forster (15 kills) and Avery Macklin (12 kills). Emily Teelon had 49 kills.

Tandem spark Flagler to win

In St. Augustine, Fla., Quam Salami and Matheus Carvalho had goals as Flagler blanked USC Aiken in a Peach Belt Conference matchup.

The Pacers drop to 3-5-1, 1-2-1 PBC.

In the women's match, Peach Belt Conference frontrunner Flagler posted a 4-1 victory over USC Aiken.

Fio Fustagno had two goals, and Charlene Nowotney had a goal and an assist for the Saints.

Gressa Olson had the goal for USC Aiken (3-8-0, 1-4-0 PBC) in the second half.

Pacers fourth at Firestone

In Akron, Ohio, USC Aiken finished fourth in the Firestone Invitational behind Johnson Holliday, Dan Sheehan and Axel Ostensson.

Holliday tied for fourth after rounds of 68-77-70; Sheehan (75-71-73) tied for 16th place; Ostensson (71-76-75) tied for 24th; George Eubank (77-74-81) tied for 69th; and Top Kamnark (85-72-88) tied for 86th .
