North Augusta finished off its Columbia County sweep Friday night.

One week after knocking off Lakeside, the Yellow Jackets pounded out a 35-23 home victory over Evans.

Derius Gibson rushed for 150 yards and two touchdowns to lead North Augusta, which improved to 2-0. The Yellow Jackets now enjoy a bye week and will return Sept. 8 with their home game against Lexington.

Evans (0-1) dropped its fourth consecutive game to North Augusta, including a 28-20 defeat in 2016. The Knights' offense struggled to get anything going until late in the third quarter, when they established their first drive longer than two minutes.

In his first start, quarterback Damekus Taylor led Evans with three rushing touchdowns. He also went 8 for 16 passing for 124 yards and two interceptions.

Corey Watkins led the Knights' rushing attack with 78 yards on 15 carries, while Nathan Clem added 32 yards on eight rushes.

Evans got on the board early after it stopped North Augusta's opening drive. When the fourth-down snap sailed over the head of the Yellow Jackets punter, the Knights started with first first and goal at the 7. Three plays later, quarterback Damekus Taylor darted around the right side for a 3-yard touchdown. Evans then attempted a 2-point run - and failed.

North Augusta responded immediately. After the ensuing kickoff, Landon Washington fired a pass over the Knights' secondary to Dashaun Johnson down the right seam for a 72-yard touchdown. Parker Baxley added the extra point for a 7-6 lead.

Later in the quarter, Evans took the lead back. Max Tyler boomed a 49-yard field goal for a 9-6 advantage.

North Augusta wore down Evans in the first half, winning the battle in the trenches. The Yellow Jackets dominated the time of possession, 17:28 to 7:32. Of the Knights' five drives before halftime, none reached two minutes.

North Augusta went ahead on a DeJuan Bell 4-yard scoring run late in the first quarter. At the end of the first half, Derius Gibson scored on a 15-yard run to push the lead to 21-9.

Evans finally got its offense going late in the third quarter, but the Knights could only pull within 12 points twice.
