North Augusta wins 2 titles at track meet

North Augusta's track and field team won state championships in two events, and Fox Creek's baseball team was to play for a state title Tuesday.

North Augusta's boys 4×400 relay team (Jose Alvarez, Kyle Morrell, Hayden Parker, Dejuan Bell and David Smith) repeated as state champs, having won in 2016 as well. Christian Maddox is state champion in boys high jump.

Fox Creek's baseball team beat Latta 3-2 on Saturday, and the two teams were scheduled to play again for the championship Tuesday. For results of that game, visit augustachronicle.com. The Predators were aiming for the first state title in school history.

North Augusta's baseball team lost to South Pointe 8-7 in the Upper State Championship game after surviving the loser's bracket to get back into contention.

A similar fate befell North Augusta's girls softball team, which fell in the final game 3-0 to Union County.

In other Aiken County action, South Aiken's girls soccer team won the state championship with a 4-2 victory over Chapin on Friday. South Aiken claimed the first state title in program history by beating the defending Class AAA champion on penalty kicks after reaching a tie at 1 through regulation and the multiple overtime periods.
