The North Augusta Sports Commission’s ninth annual Hall of Fame Induction Banquet will be held Feb. 22 at Grace United Methodist Church’s Wesley Center.
This year’s honorees are Johnny Harrison, who played football, basketball and baseball at North Augusta High School and received recognition while playing collegiate baseball; Vicki Mann, who played and received honors in several sports at North Augusta High and went on to play sports at the University of South Carolina; Bill Utsey, former head football coach and athletic director for North Augusta High, who led the 1989 football team to a state championship; and the North Augusta High 1989 AAAA state championship football team, which overcame a losing record for the regular season to win the state championship.
The commission’s selection committee chooses the inductees each year, said John Felak, the commission’s chairman.
“Their athletic accomplishments brought recognition to North Augusta and many had success beyond our community,” said Felak of hall of fame honorees. “We look for those who excelled in athletics while representing our community.”
Other qualifications to be considered is that they must have been inactive in sports for at least five years or have been involved in sports for at least 25 years.
This year’s inductees will bring the total number of people in the North Augusta Hall of Fame to about 40, said Felak.
The event will also highlight athletes of distinction, players who have enjoyed success on the state level or higher.
“The entire community celebrates their success,” he said.
Those who will be recognized as athletes of distinction are: Ron Beckham, Elizabeth Creech, Nicole Fuller, Bryan Narcisse, Nik O’Brien, Dan Pippin, Emily Sam, Jake Whitley, Kelsey Williams, Maurice Williams and Neko Williams.
