Whitley injured in game
North Augusta senior offensive lineman Jake Whitley, who went down with a knee injury Friday night, said via text Saturday that he doesn’t know how long he will be out.
Whitley, who was selected for the Shrine Bowl, was injured late in the first half of North Augusta’s 18-14 loss to Lexington. It was the Yellow Jackets’ first setback of the season.
“Thanks everyone for the support, it means a lot,” Whitley added Saturday on his Twitter account.
Whitley, who has committed to Georgia Tech, was hit on the back of the knee, according to North Augusta coach Dan Pippin.
“He’s going to college; he’s got a lot more football left no matter what,” Pippin said after Friday’s game.
The Shrine Bowl pits the top players from South Carolina against North Carolina. The game will be played Dec. 21 in Spartanburg, S.C.
