Yellow Jackets to be featured on cable
North Augusta High School’s football program will receive widespread attention this fall when the Yellow Jackets play in front of a cable television audience for the first time.
Athletic director and football coach Dan Pippin said the school finalized a deal to play Valdosta High School on Sept. 1 near Atlanta as part of North Gwinnett High School’s National Football Challenge.
“A lot of it is the fact that we draw well,” Pippin said. “We’ll get a lot of people there. It’s going to be something I hope that gets us over the hump as a program.”
The National Football Challenge is an annual event held at North Gwinnett High in Suwanee, Ga., and regional cable channel Comcast/Charter Sports Southeast has broadcast its games in the past.
Pippin said 1,000 tickets will be made available to Yellow Jackets fans at a cost of $10 each. Money from ticket sales will go back to the football program.
North Augusta will play two games, including a Week 0 contest against T.L. Hanna, before heading to Atlanta.
The Yellow Jackets have posted a 35-6 record over the last three years with a high-powered offense that averaged more than 36 points per game in 2011.
