Education Matters elects officers

Posted: May 17, 2017 - 2:17am

Michael W. Rosier, communications coordinator for the Aiken County Public School District, has been elected chairman of the board for the Education Matters nonprofit corporation.

Madeline Blair was elected vice chairwoman and Tiffany Watson was chosen as board secretary.

All were elected to three-year terms.

Rosier steps in for outgoing chairman King Laurence, the school district's chief officer of administration. Laurence will remain an Education Matters board member.

Blair is a public affairs specialist for Savannah River Remediation and an adjunct professor in the Department of Communications at the University of South Carolina Aiken.

Watson is a senior human resources generalist with Aiken Regional Medical Centers.

"After having attended last year's Education Matters ‘Are You Ready to Be Grown' conference, I knew this was an organization that took a hands-on approach to addressing some of our community issues. That resonated with me," Rosier said.

Education Matters was founded in 2013. Its mission is to:

• Advance the cause of academic excellence and enrichment through the promotion and/or organization of workshops, conferences, seminars, etc. for youth and adults.

• Disseminate helpful information aimed at increasing the public's overall awareness, knowledge and attitude toward education and anything determined to uplift others and contribute to the betterment of the community.

• Serve as an advocacy organization for youth through the development and/or support of mentoring initiatives and educational programs.
