• PotashCorp made donations to several North Augusta schools: North Augusta High, $10,000, will be used to purchase instructional materials and supplies; Paul Knox Middle, $10,000, will be used to purchase instructional materials and supplies; Hammond Hill Elementary, $10,000, will be used to support a science-based field trip and purchase instructional supplies incorporating technology and the Common Core State Standards; and North Augusta Elementary, $5,334, will be used for a third-grade trip to Fort Sumter and Fort Moultrie in Charleston, S.C.

Madelyn Wasden and Shelby Simmons, both of North Augusta, are second year scholarship recipients in the Savannah River Nuclear Solutions Program. Both are students at the University of South Carolina-Aiken.

• The next early release day for Aiken County Public Schools is Feb. 5.

• Applications are being accepted for the Savannah River Nuclear Solutions Innovative Teaching Mini Grants program. The grants are awarded to elementary and middle school teachers who seek to use creative and innovative methods in the classroom related to science, math and technology. Award categories are $500, $750 and $1,000. Teachers in Aiken, Allendale, Bamberg, Barnwell and Edgefield counties in South Carolina and Columbia and Richmond counties in Georgia are eligible to apply. Applications are available at www.srs.gov/general/outreach/edoutrch/ed_home.htm and must be submitted by close of business March 3.

• The Miss Fox Creek pageant will be held Feb. 22 at the Kroc Center, 1833 Broad St., Augusta.

• Mary Furstenberg had her Donor’s Choose project funded and will receive $183 worth of materials.

• Student council is sponsoring a Souper Bowl of Caring food drive through Jan. 31.

• The following pupils made the 100 Book Club: Cecilia Andrade and Frank Costello. The following made the Dolphin Readers Respond Book Club-Pencil Level: Terrance Watkins, Wesley Serrano, Skyler Bell, Zachary Malcolm, Ethan Shealy, Jorge Reyes, Katie Morin, Toraia Pixley, Brayden Rutland and Izzy Gardiner. The following have met the yearly goal: James Pinkston, Jolie Colafrancesco and Ta’maiya Cobb.

• The school spelling bee was held Dec. 12. Winners were: seventh grader Michael Havasy, first place; sixth grader MeLena Bush, second place; and eighth grader Jarrett Kelly, third place.

• The winners of the school geography bee held Jan. 14 were: Katherine Dunaway, school winner; Steven Poore, second place; and Josh McGee, third place.

• Catholic Schools Week will be held Sunday through Feb. 1.
