Travis Lydell Pickens of North Augusta has been awarded the Bertie Mae Garrett Scholarship by the Middle Georgia State College Foundation.

• Sept. 4 is an early release day for Aiken County students.

• The next Area 2 Advisory Council meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 5 at North Augusta High School.

• Meetings of the board of directors are held on the last Monday of the month at 6 p.m. in the Fox Creek conference room.

William ‘‘Liam’’ Gregory won the school’s theme contest. This year’s theme is Swing Fore Success. He will receive a $50 savings bond.

• Today is the last day to turn in postcards for the summer postcard drawing. The drawing will be held Friday.

• MAP testing will begin Tuesday.

• The nurse needs donations of clean, gently used clothing for the clothes closet. The items will be used in the event of emergencies or accidents.

Katie Beth Cannon received a perfect score on the PASS writing test.

• Volunteer training will be held Sept. 4 at 11:30 and 11:45 a.m.

Taylor Spivey won the 2013-14 North Augusta Elementary school shirt design contest.

Patrick Green won a bronze medal in the javelin (9-year-old division) event in the Athletic Amateur Union Junior Olympics at Easter Michigan University. He had a throw of 64 feet, 2 inches.

• The 2013-14 PTO board members are: Patricia Pinkston, president; Melinda Derr, vice-president; Sunnie Cook, deposit treasurer; Steve Derr, ledger treasurer; and Sandra Martinez, board member.

• A hard lockdown drill will be held today.

• MAP testing will be administered to first through fifth grades Tuesday through Sept. 27.

• Senior night is 6 p.m. Tuesday.

• Open house will be held Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m.

• Parents or grandparents interested in volunteering should be trained during the Volunteer Training meeting during open house. Opportunities include field trip chaperone, canteen worker, assistant coach, Parents of Athletes, PTO, band, and gifted and talented.
