Fox Creek High School’s board of directors have voted to terminate Principal Dr. Timothy Murph.

The decision was made at a special called meeting July 22.

“Employee A through his attorney waived his right to attend and participate in (the) meeting in Executive Session,” according to a statement from the board. “However, employee A has requested a Due Process hearing before the Board of Trustees should the Board decide to terminate employee A’s contract.”

A hearing will be scheduled “at a mutually convenient time between both parties,” according to the statement.

Board president Greg Hurt said that the board can’t discuss details of the situation.

Murph had been the principal of the charter school for seven of the school’s nine years of existence, according to his biography listed on the school’s Web site.

In July 2012, the school moved from under the umbrella of the Edgefield County School District to the South Carolina Public Charter School District.

Superintendent of the charter school district, Dr. Wayne Brazell, said Thursday that district administration was not involved in the board’s vote or decision.

“We didn’t intervene in any way,” said Brazell.

Personnel and student issues are usually handled at the local levels, he said, adding that the only situation where the district would intervene is if there was a violation of charter school or state law.

Murph had been on administrative leave since May. Fox Creek’s assistant principal Josh Trahan has served as the school’s interim principal since then.
