New NAHS principal a familar face

Posted: July 23, 2013 - 1:20pm

The new North Augusta High School principal is a familiar face to many students.

John Murphy was selected by the Aiken County Public School District’s school board July 16 to fill the vacant position.

Murphy previously served as the principal of Paul Knox Middle School.

“My family and I are very excited and honored,” said Murphy.

“We certainly want to thank the school board and Dr. (Beth) Everitt and Mr. (David) Caver for giving me this opportunity.”

The North Augusta High principal position was left vacant after Todd Bornscheuer, accepted the principal position at H.E. McCracken Middle School in Bluffton, S.C., in June.

Murphy has worked in Aiken County public schools since 2002.

His experience with the district includes working as a science teacher and assistant football coach at Aiken High School for four years; assistant principal at Ridge Spring-Monetta Elementary/Middle School for one year; and assistant principal at North Augusta High from 2007 to 2009.

“I would like to continue the excellent tradition that North Augusta High School has,” he said. “I’m looking forward to getting to know everyone again, get reacquainted.”
