North Augusta Middle School pupil Michael Havasy was recognized by Duke TIP on May 14 at the seventh grade EXPLORE recognition ceremony held at Furman University. Nationwide, 343 pupils scored in the 99th percentile on the ACT Explore test. Michael was one of six pupils in South Carolina who qualified for the recognition.  SPECIAL

• The following North Augusta residents were named to the president’s list at Clemson University for the spring 2013 semester: Lauren Elizabeth Boynton, Caitlin Emily Carter, Marina Joanne Clements, Alysse Leah Edwards, Ashlyn Christine Kelly, Rebecca Sue Phifer, Rebecca Elizabeth Rudisill and Anabeth Jarrard Stribling.

• The following North Augusta residents were named to the dean’s list at Clemson University for the spring 2013 semester: Haley Elizabeth Barinowski, Jack Alan Bernard Jr., Brooke Raye Busby, Megan Francis Garland, Katye Denae Gilliland, Grace Elizabeth Manci, Rachel Leigh Smith and Benjamin Roy Smith Jr.

• Registration will be held Aug. 1 from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. A parent or legal guardian must register the pupil, pay a $45 fee and provide current information on the registration card.

• Open house will be held Aug. 16 from 2 to 4 p.m.

• Students earning a minimum of 61 in any core class will be able to enroll in credit recovery. These students will take a pretest and work on the content they found most challenging throughout the year. Once students demonstrate mastery of this material, they will be able to earn a 70 in place of the failing grade. Students can earn credit recovery in up to two classes. Tuition is $100 per course for half of a unit, $150 for a full unit for initial credit or $250 for the course.

• Host parents are needed to host foreign exchange students. For more information, contact PAX community coordinator Celia Albert at (706) 373-4389.

• Board of directors meetings are held the last Monday of the month at 6 p.m. in the Fox Creek conference room.

• Pupils are asked to mail a postcard from their vacations and they will be displayed on a bulletin board in the fall. Those who send in a postcard will be entered into a drawing for a prize. Address postcards to Hammond Hill Elementary, 901 W. Woodlawn Avenue, North Augusta, SC 29841.

• Registration will be held 8 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. July 31 and from noon to 7 p.m. Aug. 1.

• The 2012-13 archery team finished their season with a tournament in Edgefield. The team won three trophies in its division: Joseph Strickland, first place; Will Wise, second place; and Jonathan Lykins, third place.

• Pupils should pick up their schedules for the 2013-14 school year on Aug. 1 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the multipurpose room.

• Fees for the 2013-14 school year are $50 per pupil. Additional fees: $6 for band and $10 for GT.

• Registration for the 2013-14 school year is Aug. 1 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
