The Support Staff Persons of the Year for Edgefield County School District are: Janice Sherlock, Merriwether Elementary; Sandy Mims, Johnston Elementary; Denise Dandy, Douglas Elementary; Kathy Culver, W.E. Parker Elementary; Lucinda Joplin, Johnston-Edgefield-Trenton Middle; Robert Adams, Merriwether Middle; Leroy Rouse, Strom Thurmond High;  Sunny Covar, Strom Thurmond Career Center; and Janet Johnson, District Office. Each will be interviewed by a panel of judges over the summer. The District Support Person of the Year will be announced in September at the annual banquet held in conjunction with the Edgefield County Chamber of Commerce. SPECIAL

Foster McLane, son of Duane and Dedi McLane, won the silver award for excellent performance on the 2013 National Spanish Examination. McLane is a student at the South Carolina Governor’s School for Science and Mathematics.

Belvedere Elementary

• Bel-Ridge Baptist Church will have Thirsty Thursday each Thursday in May.

• The cup-stacking tournament is Friday.

• There is no school Monday.

• Field Day for third, fourth and fifth grades will be held Tuesday.

• Field day for kindergarten, second and third grades will be held May 29.

• May 31 is the last day for 4K and pre-school pupils.

• Decades and colonial days is May 31.

• The kindergarten program will be held at 6 p.m. June 3 at Belvedere First Baptist Church.

• End-of-the-year ceremony schedule: 8 a.m. June 3, first grade; 9:15 a.m. June 3, second grade; 8 a.m. June 4, third grade; 9:15 a.m. June 4, fourth grade; and 8 a.m. June 5, fifth grade.

• Pupils will be dismissed at 11 a.m. June 4-6.

• The last day of school is June 6.

Fox Creek High

• The spring music concert will be held Thursday.

• There is no school Monday.

• Senior exams will be held May 28-31

• A senior breakfast will be served by the Fox Creek PTCA May 30.

• Saturday school will be held through June 1. The cost is $10. Students must arrive by 8 a.m. and be picked up at noon. One day of Saturday school will make up for one absence. Students should bring schoolwork with them. Those planning to attend must sign up with Mrs. Mayson by the end of the day on the Thursday prior to the Saturday school date.

• A baccalaureate service will be held at Sweetwater Baptist Church at 3 p.m. June 2. Graduates should wear cap and gown, tassel and dress in graduation attire.

• Graduation tickets will be distributed June 4 beginning at 10 a.m. Graduates or their parents must pick up and sign for tickets. Each graduate participating in graduation will receive 10 tickets.

• Graduation practice will begin at 10 a.m. in the Aiken Technical College gymnasium. Practice is mandatory for participants.

• Graduation will be held at 7 p.m. June 6 at Aiken Technical College. All students must be in room 908 no later than
6:15 p.m.

Hammond Hill Elementary

• The following pupils placed in the track meet: first grade: 50 Yard Dash – Montez Tillman (third); 100 Meters – Dylan Evans (first); second grade: 200 Meters – Garrett Hunt (second); third grade: 100 Yard Dash – Janae Elliott (first); 300 Meters – Janae Elliott (first); fourth grade: 100 Yard Dash – Veronica Hendon (first); 400 Meters – Veronica Hendon (third); fifth grade: 400 Meters – Shane Kenrick (third).

• The year-end program schedule is: 8:30 a.m. today, Pierce class; 8:30 a.m. Thursday, Devine class; and 8:30 a.m. June 6, Holloway’s class.

• There is no school Monday in observance of Memorial Day.

• The last day for the before and after school Compas Club is May 29.

Merriwether Middle

• The powder puff football fundraiser will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday.

• Library books are due by Friday.

• The sixth grade Field Day is May 31.

• Field Day for seventh and eighth grades is June 3.

• Awards day for sixth grade will be held at 9 a.m. June 3.

• Awards day for eighth grade will be held at 9 a.m. June 4.

Mossy Creek Elementary

• Field Day is Thursday.

• The yearbook signing will be held Friday from 1:30 to 2 p.m.

• There is no school Monday.

North Augusta Elementary

• Pupils who have made the Principal’s Writing Board are Makena Edwards, Genesis Agiurre Gomez, Ivan Potapenko, Ann Elise Baxley, Tiara Missey and Kaden Doom.

• The SC Rivers Project student exhibition is accepting pictures of South Carolina’s rivers through June 1. Students should take a picture of a South Carolina river and e-mail it to kerry@columbia
museum.org. Selected photos will be on exhibit at the Columbia Museum of Art and then taken to the offices of Sen. Lindsay Graham in Washington, D.C. See Ms. Ramey in room 403 for an official form.

• Graduation will be held at 6 p.m. June 7.

• A working meeting for the North Augusta High literary journal is held every Thursday in Room 305. Bring your poems, plays, journals, essays and drawings.

• Chick-fil-A cookies are sold for $1.25 during lunch Tuesdays and Thurs­days, and sandwiches are sold for $4 on Fridays.

• The NJROTC canteen is open during all three lunches. Items sold include chips, cookies, crackers, candy and drinks.

• The Jacket Espresso is open during all three lunches and sells coffee, hot chocolate, fruit smoothies and iced mocha lattes.

• FCA sells pizza Tuesdays and Thursdays for $3 in the courtyard during all three lunches.

• Student council meets on the fourth Thursday of each month at 6 p.m. in the media center.

• FCA meets every Friday in Mobile 2 at 7:45 a.m. Krispy Kreme and orange juice will be served.

• Tutoring is offered as follows: Mondays, English in Room 116, Spanish in Room 201 and French in Room 203; Tuesdays, math in Room 304 and business in the assigned teacher’s room; and Thursdays, social studies in Room 509 and science in Room 212.

North Augusta Middle

• Students who think they have perfect attendence for the 2012-2013 school year or perfect attendance for the sixth through eighth grades are asked to call Mrs. Smith at (803)

• The 2013-14 school T-shirt will be sold during lunch on Fridays through May 24. Shirts are $10 each.

• The eighth-grade field day is Friday.

• The student council meeting is Friday from 3:15 to 4 p.m. The end of the year celebration will be held. Sixth-grade members are asked to bring drinks; seventh-grade members should bring sweet snacks; and eighth-grade members are to bring salty snacks.

• There is no school Monday.

• The fine arts POPS Concert will be held May 31 from 9 to 10 a.m.

• Eighth grade exams will be administered June 3-5.

• The eighth grade honors program will be held 9 a.m. June 3.

• The sixth grade honors program will be held 9 a.m. June 4.

• The seventh grade honors program will be held 9 a.m. June 5.

• June 4-6 are half days for pupils.

• The Guitar Club practices every Monday from 3:20 to 3:50 p.m.

Our Lady of Peace

• Pupils can dress out of uniform Thursday for $1. Proceeds benefit Parish Charities.

• There is no school Monday.

• Pupils will be dismissed early June 3-6.

• The last day of school is June 6.

• The drama club meets on Wednesday from 3:15 to 4:15 p.m.

• Songs of Praise practice is held on Thursdays from 3:15 to 4:15 p.m.

• School Mass is held every Friday from 8:45 to 9:45 a.m.

• The school collects box tops, Capri Sun pouches, aluminum can tops and newspapers.

• All student special permission transfer requests must be completed by May 31. Pupils already in the school do not have to reapply for special permission to attend.

• Chick-fil-A biscuits are sold in the car line from 7:30 to 8 a.m. Fridays for $3 each.

• Registration for the 2013-14 school year is Aug. 1 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

• Student messages will be delivered at 1:45 p.m. All messages must be called in by 1:30 p.m. Pupils cannot leave school early unless they are signed out by a parent, guardian or their designee. Pupils who miss at least four periods will be counted absent for the day. Pupils who have an appointment scheduled should bring an excuse, have it approved in the office, show it to the teacher at the beginning of class and leave quietly at the necessary time without disturbing class.

• Lunch extras are being sold in the canteen: Mondays – canteen items; Tuesdays and Fridays – pizza slices, $2 per slice; Thursdays – nachos and hot dogs, $2 each, drinks $1.25 each. Cash only. Volunteers are needed to help with lunch sales from 10:53 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Mondays and Fridays. Contact Sandy Zellar at stzmail@bellsouth.net if you can help.

• The PTO collects box tops, used ink cartridges and My Coke Rewards.

• Chapel is held at 11 a.m. Thurs­days in the Victory Baptist College’s main classroom on the second floor of the school.
