General news

• The next Area 2 Advisory Council meeting will be at 6 p.m. Thursday at North Augusta Middle School.

Belvedere Elementary

• PASS testing for third- through fifth-grade pupils will be May 7-10. Testing will start at 8:15 a.m.

• The kindergarten program will be held at 6 p.m. June 3 at Belvedere First Baptist Church.

Fox Creek High

• Applications for executive positions for the board of directors, PTCA and athletic booster club are being accepted through Friday at 4 p.m. Applications are available in the school’s main office. To serve on the Fox Creek Board of Directors, one must be at least 21 years old, a South Carolina resident and not a convicted felon. To serve on the PTCA and athletic booster club boards, one must be a member of the organization.

Hammond Hill Elementary

• Pupils will be dismissed at 12:30 p.m. May 1.

• The PASS tests for English/language arts, math, social studies and science will be administered to third through fifth grades on May 7-10. Volunteers are needed to be classroom monitors from 7:30 to 11:30 a.m. each testing day. Contact Ms. Brown at (803) 442-6170 if interested in being a classroom monitor.

• The year-end program schedule is: 8:30 a.m. May 20, Pond class; 8:30 a.m. May 21, Printup class; 8:30 a.m. May 22, Pierce class; 8:30 a.m. May 23, Devine class; and 8:30 a.m. June 6, Holloway’s class.

• The ’70s Day is May 24.

• There is no school May 27 in observance of Memorial Day.

• PASS testing will be administered May 7-10.

• The kindergarten awards day is May 31.

• First-grade awards day is June 3 at 8:15 a.m.

• Second-grade awards day is June 3 at 9:15 a.m.

• Third-grade awards day is June 4 at 8:15 a.m.

• Fourth-grade awards day is June 4 at 9:15 a.m.

• Fifth-grade awards day is June 5 at 8:15 a.m.

• June 4-5 are half days for pupils.

• June 5 is the last day of school.

• Running club practice is held Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:30 to
3:30 p.m.

• The Looney Tunes Bank is open at 9 a.m. Wednesdays in the media center.

• The MES Mavericks Scholastic Chess Club meets on Mondays from 5 to 6 p.m. in the school cafeteria.

• The school collects box tops and Campbell’s labels.

• Yearbooks are on sale for $28.

• No changes in transportation from car to bus or bus to car will be taken over the phone. Changes should be sent to the school in writing.

• Parents can call into the homework hot line to check homework assignments. Call (803) 279-9993 and dial the teacher’s room number when prompted.

Merriwether Middle

• The Merriwether Mavericks Scholastic Chess Club meets on Mondays from 5 to 6 p.m. in the cafeteria at Merriwether Elementary. Memberships are $35 per year and include a regulation chess set and a T-shirt.

• Chick-fil-A biscuits are sold on the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month.

• The school collects box tops and ink cartridges.

Mossy Creek Elementary

• Pupils will be dismissed at 12:30 p.m. May 1. There are no 4K classes on early release days. Pupils can wear their favorite hat for $1.

• The fifth grade celebration breakfast is May 3.

• Student transfer requests for the 2013-14 school year will be accepted through May 31. Pupils who are currently students at Mossy Creek will not have to submit another request. Those who are attending Mossy Creek but have moved out of the Mossy Creek attendance zone will have to complete a request form and receive approval to attend the school next school year.

• Pupils can request to meet with Bridge Builders and Ms. Hooper to work out a conflict. Bridge Builders are fifth-grade pupils who are trained peer mediators. The “Fix It” sessions are Monday through Thursday from 7:20 to 7:45 a.m.

North Augusta Elementary

• The 2013 Title I planning team meeting will be held May 6 from 1-2 p.m. in the conference room.

• PASS testing will be administered May 7-10.

• The end of the year award ceremonies schedule: 8 a.m. June 3, kindergarten; 8 a.m. June 4, first grade; 9:30 a.m. June 4, second grade; 8 a.m. June 5, third grade; 9:30 a.m. June 5, fourth grade; and 8:30 a.m. June 6, fifth grade.

• Pupils will be dismissed at 11 a.m. June 4-6.

• The last day of school is June 6.

• The health room is accepting donations of gently used pants size 5T to 14.

• The North Augusta Sertoma Scholarship Fund awards $1,000 scholarships to candidates annually on the basis of scholastic aptitude, financial need and citizenship. The deadline to apply is May 1.

• The Marion R. Paschall Scholarship Oratorical Contest is available for all grades. The deadline is May 20.

North Augusta Middle

• May 1 is an early release day.

• The deadline for transfer requests to attend a different school is May 1.

• PASS testing will be administered May 7-10.

• The spring fling is May 17 from 7 to 10 p.m. at Misty Lakes. Tickets will be sold during the eighth-grade lunch May 13, 15 and 17. The event is for North Augusta Middle eighth-graders only.

Our Lady of Peace

• Interim reports will be issued May 1.

• The school-wide bake sale is May 1 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

• The drama club meets on Wednesday from 3:15 to 4:15 p.m.

Paul Knox Middle

• May 1 is an early release day.

• Te chorus concert will be held at 7:30 p.m. May 2 at North Augusta High School.• Spring football practice for seventh-graders begins May 6. Pupils must have a physical to participate. See coach Higgenbottom for a form.

• PASS testing will be administered May 7-10.

• The eighth-grade dance is May 18.

Victory Christian

• Victory Baptist Church’s camp meeting is May 6-10. Students will be released at noon each day.

• Six-week progress reports will be distributed May 10.

• Chapel is held at 11 a.m. Thurs­days in the Victory Baptist College’s main classroom on the second floor of the school. • Free car decals that say “Christian Children Need A Christian Education” are available. Ask for one in the office.
