Shelby Kenrick is no stranger to winning titles in the Miss NASH pageant.
The 17-year-old won first-runner up her freshman year and the titles of Miss Sophomore and Miss Junior the following years.
However, it was the Miss NASH title she won Saturday night that topped it all.
Shelby was one of 27 contestants who competed in the annual Miss North Augusta Senior High pageant in front of a packed auditorium at North Augusta High.
Each participated in the casual wear and evening gown categories. The finalists then drew slips of paper with a question on it and answered it on stage.
Shelby was asked which she would choose if she had to choose between fame and fortune. She answered that she would choose fortune.
The senior got involved with the pageant as a freshman because she liked the idea of getting dressed up and made up, she said.
This year, she wanted to use the pageant as a way to be an example to other girls in the school.
“The main reason I wanted to do it was because I wanted to be a role model for all the girls coming up in high school because I know they look up to me and I felt this was a great way and a great platform for me to have to show them that you can be pretty, smart and confident all at the same time,” she said.
Shelby plans to attend Anderson College in the fall. Her future career plans are to become a graphic designer.
