Minutes after she was announced as the new Miss Fox Creek, Jordan Hysell was still in shock.
She smiled and wiped away tears as people congratulated her backstage after the annual Fox Creek High School pageant Saturday. The senior won the title in what was her third pageant. It was the first time she placed in a pageant, she said.
Preparing for the pageant helped her to work on confidence and balance.
“Winning was the icing on the cake,” she said, adding that she wished she could share the honor with the other contestants.
Jordan was one of more than 40 contestants who competed in the pageant in front of a packed audience at the Imperial Theatre in downtown Augusta.
The contestants competed in the casual wear and evening wear categories as they vied for class titles and the coveted Miss Fox Creek title. The top contestants from each grade then moved on to the interview round and answered questions on stage.
Throughout the evening, the audience was entertained by dance groups, singers and the emcees Donna Leopard and Chris Martinez, both teachers at Fox Creek.
The pageant also had special guests – a film crew from MTV’s Made. MTV crewmembers who were filming for a future episode could be seen on the side of the stage and in other areas of the theater.
Hysell plans to attend Georgia Regents University in the fall.
