• Box Tops, Campbell’s soup labels, My Coke Rewards, Tyson chicken labels, used ink cartridges and recyclable cellphones are being collected.

• MAP testing continues through Sept. 25.

• Bel-Ridge Baptist Church serves lemonade, tea and soft drinks to pupils walking from school through the church yard Thursdays through Sept. 27.

• The fall carnival will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 13 at the school.

• Interim reports will be sent home Sept. 19.

• Open house is Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. College Application Night will be held at the same time.

• A board meeting will be held at 6 p.m. Monday in the school’s conference room.

• Spirit Night at Zaxby’s is Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. • Make-up picture day is Sept. 26.

• The senior deadline for ads and pictures is Sept. 28.

• Homecoming is Oct. 5. The football game starts at 7:30 p.m. and will be against North.

• The second nine weeks will start Oct. 23.

• Fall HSAP testing will be held Oct. 23-25.

• The next early release day is Oct. 31.

• Teacher work days are Nov. 2 and 5. There will be no school for students.

• There will be no school Nov. 6 for election day.

• The Miss Fox Creek 2013 pageant will be held Jan. 26. The theme is Uptown Girl and the competition includes personal and on-stage interviews, sportswear and evening gown. See Mrs. Leopard for more information.

• Team Ready T-shirts are on sale for $15. Proceeds benefit Teacher Cadet.

• The art room needs a document camera and has posted the need as a project on Donors Choose. To make a donation towards the document camera, go to www.donorschoose.org/noland.

• For a donation of $15, a new hardcover book will be placed in the library and a bookplate honoring your child or a teacher will be placed in the front of the book. Donations will be announced on the HHE Morning News Show. Forms are available in the library media center.

• Parents must provide the full birth date of a pupil when making transportation changes over the telephone. It is preferable that changes be in writing. No transportation changes will be honored after 2 p.m. On early release days, changes must be made before noon.

• The nurse is in need of donations of gently used, unwanted or outgrown clothes for the clothes closet in the clinic. These clothes will be used in the event of emergencies or accidents.

• The 2012-13 Buzz Cards can be purchased for $5. The cards can be used at many local businesses throughout the year.

• People may purchase a commemorative brick to support the courtyard renovation project. Contact the school for more information.

• Parents can access the parent portal using their ID and password. Parents can come by the school office during school hours to receive their ID and password. For more information about the parent portal, go to acps.schoolfusion.us and click on the Power School Parent Portal link.

• Interim report cards will be sent home Sept. 19.

• The school collects Box Tops and Campbell’s labels.

• Orders for the 2013 yearbook are being accepted. Yearbooks will be hardcover and in color. Yearbooks are being sold for $25 until Jan. 18. To reserve a copy, send the order form and payment to Paige Geddes or Jessica Jackson, or visit www.jostensyearbooks.com. If you want the pupil’s name engraved on the yearbook, it must be paid for by Jan. 18. Yearbooks can be purchased with cash or a check made out to Merriwether Elementary School. • MES PTO membership is $5 per family. Checks should be made payable to MES PTO.

• There are several PTO volunteer opportunities available including: the school store, which is open 7-8 a.m. each school day; fall festival; teacher luncheons; carnival bake sale, games, kitchen and food stations; spring yard sale; Christmas Shoppe; Arts to Remember; sort, count and prepare Box Tops and Campbell’s labels for shipping; and heading a standing committee.

• No changes in transportation from car to bus or bus to car will be taken over the phone. Changes should be sent to the school in writing.

• There will be a Teddy bear parade/picnic for kindergarteners on Friday.

• Sophomore Advisory fees will be collected through Friday. Make payments in room 506 before third period.

• Fees for Junior Advisory will be collected through Sept. 28. Make payments in rooms 212 or 404 before fourth period. Fees must be paid before joining the group.

• Members of the National Honor Society who have already been inducted need to pay dues of $10 by Oct. 1. Turn money in before fifth period with Mrs. Creamer in room 305.

• Jostens will be on campus Oct. 10 during all three lunches and will collect the balance on class rings.

• The Class of 2014 ring ceremony will be at 7 p.m. Oct. 24. Participants need to arrive by 6:15 p.m. The last day to sign up is Oct. 10.

• Chick-fil-A cookies will be sold for $1.25 during lunch Tuesdays and Thursdays, and sandwiches will be sold for $4 on Fridays.

• The NJROTC canteen is open during all three lunches. Items sold include chips, cookies, crackers, candy and drinks.

• The Jacket Espresso is open during all three lunches and sells coffee, hot chocolate, fruit smoothies and iced mocha lattes.

• FCA sells pizza Tuesdays and Thursdays for $3 in the courtyard during all three lunches.

• Spanish Club membership is $10.

• Box Tops for Education should be turned in to homeroom teachers.

• PowerSchool’s Parent Portal for parents and pupils is available. Previous IDs and passwords still work for returning pupils. If new to the school, contact the main office to receive a user name and password.

• Parent volunteers are needed in the library media center on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. If interested, contact Mrs. Sidey.

• Pupils interested in joining the Stand Up and Stop Bullying Club need to pick up an application in the main office, get two recommendations from teachers and return the application by Friday.

• The following items are needed for the Synergistic Lab: paper towels, AA batteries, notebook paper, black medium point Sharpies, box of vinyl gloves, 9-inch balloons, Elmer Glue All (not school glue), baby food carrots, wax paper, jar of yeast, packets of ketchup and mustard, and Ziploc sandwich and snack bags.

• The following were elected to a student council office: Gavin Turner, president; Mikaya Thomas, vice president; Anna Mercer, secretary; and Alise Harrison, treasurer.

• Picture Day is Thursday. Pupils must bring their money along with the picture packet to have their picture made.

• Sparkle Car Wash on Edgefield Road, across from the Nancy Carson Library, will donate a portion of car wash proceeds during September to the Gifted and Talented Program. In order for a portion of a car wash proceed to go to the program, customers must use the code 5014.

• Season passes are on sale for $20 per person. The passes are good for all home football, basketball and volleyball games this school year. There are coupons from local businesses on the back of each season pass.

• The school has been approved to receive a Synergistic Lab. The lab will be completed once funds are available.

• Lunch extras are being sold in the canteen: Mondays- canteen items; Tuesdays and Fridays- pizza slices, $2 per slice; and Thursdays- nachos and hot dogs, $2 each and drinks are $1.25 each. Purchases can be made with cash only.

• The media center is accepting donations of new and used books.

• The PTO collects Box Tops, used ink cartridges and My Coke Rewards.
