Artist of the Month: Bill Bova

Posted January 26, 2010 7:21 PM

Artist Bill Bova was born in Port Chester, N.Y. and raised in Connecticut.

His education includes degrees in naval architecture and marine engineering from the United States Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, N.Y.; graphic design at Fairfield University; and fine painting at the Silvermine Guild of Artists in Connecticut.

"When I was in my teens I wanted to become an artist, but then found out that the pay was not any good," Bova said. "So I decided to get my degrees to make a living, and then when I retired I could concentrate on my art."

That is what he did.

Bova's work took him around the world and enhanced his appreciation for the beauty in all facets of life, locations and people.

He retired in Centreville, Va., before moving to Mount Vintage.

Bova's work focuses primarily on watercolors. He said he was surprised at how quickly he's become accustomed to the medium.

"Sometimes I feel as if my hand is being guided by something else, it is coming so easily," he said.

Art runs in the family. His wife, Chris, is an accomplished photographer.

With her talent and his they make a successful team, Bova said.

Bova is a member of the North Augusta Artists Guild. His work has been displayed locally and collected by patrons around the world.

Works by other North Augusta artists can be seen at the Greater North Augusta Chamber of Commerce, The Beveled Edge Art and Frame Gallery, the North Augusta Family Y, and the Arts and Heritage Center of North Augusta.

Wanda Dansereau is a North Augusta artist and member of the North Augusta Artists Guild.
