Corinne Hayes' volunteering philosophy is that she's been so blessed by the church, she should give back.
At the North Augusta ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Hayes serves as the president of the Relief organization which offers women's ministry.
"We do things that support us," she said. "It helps me to be a good mother and wife. The family unit is the most important unit in the whole church, so much so that we call each other sisters."
Hayes relocated to the Mount Vintage area two years ago with her husband, Bradd. In the Mormon church, members are assigned wards, or home churches, based on their location.
With relocation being part of the life of a Navy family, the mother of four said the Relief group has given her outlets for fellowship. The North Augusta Relief organization has about 80 members.
"It's just a very warm, friendly group," she said.
She works with five other women to make sure that a sister's needs are taken care of. Each member has a couple of members they regularly check on, whether it's carrying over a hot meal if someone's ill or just being a sounding board for daily life.
"That's what motivates me: to help and improve other people's lives," Hayes said. "I'm not here to be judgmental or assume anything."
