Man arrested after threatning to kill himself, public safety chief

Officers arrested a 50-year-old North Augusta man this afternoon after he threatened to kill himself and North Augusta Public Safety Chief John Thomas during a standoff.

North Augusta Public Safety received a call at 9:03 a.m. that the Jeffrey Alan Burlage had barricaded himself in his home on Wormwrath Court and threatened to kill himself. During the six-hour standoff, Mr. Burlage threated to kill Thomas, according public safety spokesman Lt. Tim Pearson.

At 3:15 p.m., Burlage surrendered to police. He is charged with threatening a public official.
