NORTH AUGUSTA – Riding a strong defensive effort, the North Augusta Yellow Jackets came up with enough big plays on offense to wrap up a 10-1 regular season in a 35-7 victory over region rival Aiken.
North Augusta’s defense picked off two passes and recovered a fumble in the first half, which gave it prime field position. Quarterback Loranzo Hammonds led the offense with two passing touchdowns and another two scores on the ground.
Matt Hazel had two touchdown receptions called back for offensive pass interference, but he still crossed the 1,000-yard mark with two catches for 43 yards.
The win was the first against Aiken for North Augusta head coach Dan Pippin in 11 tries.
