Haskell win Aiken County seat

Aiken County native Sandy Haskell won the county council District 5 seat by a landslide in today's election.

He garnered 76 percent of the 870 votes beating out democrat Judy Hamilton, who captured 22 percent of the vote.

Haskell said he and his opponent worked hard throughout the campaign season.

“I’m just pleased with the results, and all the support,” she said. “I’ve got an awful lot to learn in a very short period of time.”

Hamilton said she was disappointed by the results and the turnout with just 7 percent of the voters turning out to the special election tonight.

“I expected a lot more people to turn out,” she said after viewing the results. “I will still be at every county council meeting. We may see my name on the ballot next year.”
