City council moves forward with riverfront development plans
RiverNorth residents came in full force to Monday's city council meeting to voice their opinion about the proposed Gardner's Landing development to be housed next door along the river.
Council voted 6-1 on first reading to pass the proposal with Ken McDowell in opposition. He stated that plans needed to be looked over again before council voted, specifically the access to the subdivision that RiverNorth residents are not happy with.
Plans have a single access point coming off of RiverNorth Drive and residents say that the entrance to their neighborhood cannot handle that much traffic.
The near 29.46 acres is designated to contain 246 apartment units and up to 65 single-family homes. Construction is expected to begin next summer with units available for move-in by fall 2011.
In other business, council unanimously approved on second reading the 2010 budget of $12,640,528 which does not include increases in rates for residents.
The final reading of the budget and second reading of the Gardner's Landing development will be Nov. 16 at 7 p.m. at the municipal building.
