Jack -o-Lantern Jubilee changes locations

One of the city's biggest festivals is moving back to its original home of Georgia Avenue.

Jack-o-Lantern Jubilee was relocated from Hammond's Ferry to Georgia Avenue, citing heavy rains this week which will make it difficult to hold the festival near the river, according to organizer Mendy DeMine.

DeMine said parking areas would not dry in time and the site would become a big mess by the end of the day.

Georgia Avenue, from Spring Grove Avenue to Buena Vista Avenue, will be closed to through traffic. Visitors are urged to park near Grace United Methodist and the First Baptist Church of North Augusta.

The hayride through the brick ponds has also been canceled.

DeMine said as the riverfront is developed, including paved parking, more events will be held on the river.

Jack-o-Lantern Jubilee will be held Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Call (803) 441-4308 for more information.
