Hinkler sentenced for selling drugs, firearms

A North Augusta man has been sentenced in federal court to more than 12 years in prison.

David Hinkler, 27, was sentenced Wednesday to 151 months for charges of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute 50 grams or more of crack cocaine and 500 grams or more of methamphetamine, possessing firearms and illegally selling firearms, according to a news release from U.S. Attorney's Office spokesman Kevin McDonald.

He was previously convicted of possession with the intent to distribute methamphetamine and unlawful carrying of a pistol in Aiken County.

Assistant U.S. Attorney James Leventis said Hinkler, along with four other conspirators, distributed drugs throughout the North Augusta and Aiken area.

Investigators seized nearly $2,000 in cash, firearms, a motorcycle and drugs. The four others, Thomas Arrington of North Augusta, Peter Clark of Evans, Charles Brady of Graniteville and Lindey Clark of Covington, were sentenced earlier this year.

Man takes unlawful discount at restaurant

A North Augusta man took his family out to dinner for 50 cents, and police are now looking for him.

According to a public safety report, the man and a woman and three children had dinner at Teresa's Mexican Restaurant at 401 W. Martintown Road on Sunday.

When they finished eating, the woman and children left the building while the man went to the register. He handed the cashier the check and 50 cents and explained that he needed to go to the car to get more money. As the cashier watched from the door, the man drove off in a black Ford sport utility vehicle.

The cashier told police she was unable to get a license number, but she recognized the man as a regular customer.

No arrests have been made.

Shots fired at Club Fusion, customers flee

North Augusta public safety officers were called in to assist in breaking up a fight at Club Fusion early Sunday morning.

When officers arrived about 2 a.m., they saw more than 200 people running from inside of the club and fighting in the parking lot, some with shirts torn or ripped off, according to an incident report.

More than 300 vehicles attempted to leave the parking lot at once, which resulted with screeching tires, improper U-turns across US Highway 1 and traveling in the wrong lanes.

Officers then heard gunshots near Greg's Gas Plus. No injuries were reported and no arrests were made, according to the report.
