Officials say the Palmetto Parkway should be open by the first week in November, which is still ahead of the Dec. 31 deadline.
"The wet weather we've had recently has slowed them down," said Skip Grkovic, director of economic and community development for North Augusta.
Project manager Alan Wertz, of U.S. Constructors, said while workers are still pushing toward finishing at the end of the month, the parkway will likely not open until the first or second week of November.
"The weather is not helping us," he said.
Construction on the main roadway is finished, but clean up detail such as fencing and dirt removal is underway.
Wertz said crews are also installing guard and line railing, painting lines and planting grass.
Detail work associated with the five-mile section of the Greeneway, which will stretch from Ascauga Lake Road to Atomic Road, is also being completed as part of the project.
Some of the pathway is already paved, Wertz said.
"We're doing pretty well on that," he said.
Grkovic said work will continue on the bridges over I-20 and the north and south bound lanes at US Highway 25 and is expected to be complete by the end of December.
Traffic will be diverted around those areas.
"There won't be any more than the public's been exposed to for the past couple of years," Wertz said.
