Driver flees after car strikes house

An Augusta man crashed his car into a North Augusta home Sunday night and then fled the scene, police say.

The resident of the house in the 1200 block of West Avenue reported hearing a loud crash in the front of his residence about 10:45 p.m., according to a police report.

Officers said the driver, identified as 29-year-old Ivan Thompson, of the 3400 block of Linderwood Drive, struck the curb and some shrubs at another residence on the same block before the vehicle hit the house.

The driver fled on foot, but Mr. Thompson later called police by phone, identified himself and said that he got scared when he realized he’d struck a house and ran away.

No arrests have been made.
