Neighborhoods to live in, in North Augusta

OK, So I'm thinking about moving.... I have been looking at different areas in North Augusta for something that is a new house, not cookie cutter, no huge homeowners association fees, etc. I would like to stay in N.A EL area.

Is an old house better than a new house?

where should I go?

The new-house neighborhoods tend to be kind of cookie cutter, so if you are not looking for that, and want something unique I would say look for a older home. It really depends on what price range you are looking for, we have everything from 50k to .5 million. There are good places no matter what your price range is though.

50-100k - Lynhurst area (off Martintown rd)
100k-200k - Hammond Hills, butlers mill (kind of cookie cutter though)
200k+ Rapids, Windtree, Bergen Place, Country Club Hills etc

Areas I would stear clear of:
Anything past the Walmart/Kmart area toward downtown Augusta (the area down georgia avenue toward 13th street is a GREAT area though), the Belvadear area unless you find a good house in "the ridge" but that area can be bad in places.

If I was to pick an ideal place in NA, I would say the Hammond Hills area and the area near the high school are the best.

Just my 2 cents.

hammond hills is your best choice. Most built in 1950's or 60's. Lots of remodeling done on most. Great neighborhood - close to EVERYTHING! Lived in that neighborhood my entire life and LOVE IT! Zoned for HHE, PK and NA high

We recently purchased a house in downtown N. A. right near the Snocap. I have to say we've been pretty happy- quiet street, nice neighbors, proximity to greenway and many other parks. I dig the character of the old houses, 100 year old camellias, sidewalks, and honestly, to build to that quality from scratch would cost many times over today. Lots of cute shops & restaurants right across the river, too- hop on 1-20 in 5 minutes to go to Augusta or Columbia. What more can you ask? Good luck with your hunt, now is certainly a great time to buy ( and no, I'm not a realtor! )
