Man hits and runs, reports car stolen
A North Augusta man was arrested after police say he left the scene of an accident.
On June 23, Toby Rodriques Johnson struck the vehicle in front of him on Edgefield Road near Rosemary Drive.
Rodriques got out of the vehicle, looked at the damage and got back in his vehicle and drove away, according to an incident report. Officers reported vehicle parts lying in the road way.
When officers later arrived at Johnson's residence on Heil Drive, he told police that someone stole his car while he was out buying cigarettes.
Officers found the car a few blocks away with no evidence of theft.
N. Augusta man arrested in robbery
A North Augusta man and a juvenile arrested by Aiken public safety officials in connection to a Saturday armed robbery now also face charges in a separate incident.
Aiken County officials announced Dayfan Fuller, 24, of the 100 block of Edna Street, and an unnamed juvenile face charges of armed robbery and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime in the Friday robbery of the Kangaroo Express on Edgefield Road.
Aiken County officials say during their investigation of they learned that the two were already in the custody of the Aiken Department of Public Safety for a similar crime -- a Saturday armed robbery at Greg's Gas Plus on Richland Avenue East.
Teacher arrested in fatal shooting
Aiken County authorities say a Hephzibah Elementary School teacher has been arrested after being accused of giving police false information during an Aiken County murder investigation.
Autronique Latrice Williams, 30, of 3740 Farrington Drive, Hephzibah, was arrested Tuesday in Richmond County and charged with misprision of a felony, said Aiken County sheriff's Capt. Troy Elwell.
Elwell said she's accused of lying in an attempt to give an alibi for Dewayne Issac, the man accused in the June 11 fatal shooting of Exzradrian Holloway in North Augusta.
Gas station worker is accused of lotto fraud
A 22-year-old worker at a North Augusta gas station has been accused of lottery fraud.
William Theodore Pattison III was arrested June 22 and charged with defrauding the South Carolina Lottery Commission of $330 on June 1 by pocketing the winnings of a ticket that wasn't purchased by a customer.
He is accused of entering the ticket as a winner at Greg's Gas Plus on Jefferson Davis Highway, then taking the ticket to Circle K on Jefferson Davis Highway and cashing it.
Sunday morning crash kills man
A 35-year-old man died in a single-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 1 in North Augusta Sunday, according to Aiken County Coroner Tim Carlton.
Gregory A. Maree was traveling south toward Augusta on Highway 1 at about 9:45 a.m. when he left the roadway in a curve near the Cheap Cigarettes store, the coroner said. The 1995 Honda struck two abandoned, above-ground gas tanks, which were empty, and caught fire.
Maree was pronounced dead at the scene from multiple body trauma. He was not wearing a seat belt, Carlton said.
Four arrested in robbery of gas station
Four people were arrested Saturday over an armed robbery at an Aiken gas station.
Dayfan Fuller, 24, of Edna Street, North Augusta; Jerry Dobbs, 21, of Mount Canaan Drive, Trenton; Kenneth Wayne Jones, 17, of Seymore Drive, North Augusta; and a 16-year-old were charged with armed robbery, according to the Aiken Department of Public Safety.
The men are accused of robbing Greg's Gas Plus in the 1600 block of East Richland Avenue about 12:20 a.m. Saturday.
Man struck chief while fleeing
Authorities arrested an Augusta man accused of striking a Williston police chief and eluding police on Saturday morning.
Demarius Smith, 21, will be charged with at least two counts of assault and battery with intent to kill, according to the North Augusta Department of Public Safety.
Police say Smith was driving his Ford Explorer off the U.S. Highway 1 exit near Martintown Road in North Augusta at 12:42 a.m. when he approached a DUI checkpoint. When officers told him to stop, he drove through and toward a group of officers, the report says. Officers began firing at his vehicle.
The suspect struck Williston Police Chief Roger Kaney while fleeing. He was treated for minor injuries at Aiken Regional Hospital and was released.
Investigators found Smith at a hotel about 1 p.m.
