The Federation was incorporated in l987 in Columbia, S.C., to preserve and promote Pure Puerto Rican Paso Finos. These horses are prized for their naturally smooth four-beat lateral gait which is consistently passed on to their offspring. Some owners of other pasos have to hire trainers to train the lateral gait into their horses. This practice is unnecessary for Pure Puerto Rican Paso Finos.
Pure Puerto Rican Paso Finos are rare and hard to find. They are extremely intelligent and make wonderful show, trail and family horses. There are only a few breeders in the U.S. and Puerto Rico who have not diluted their bloodstock with horses of outside origin. The best place to see the largest number of these horses in the U.S. is at the celebration show on August 23 and 24.
