North Augusta's city clerk, Donna Young, keeps an eye on fashion.
"One of my favorite pastimes is shopping," she said. "I love clothes, and I absolutely adore dishes."
The TLC network's What Not to Wear and Bravo's Project Runway are two of her favorite TV shows.
Decorating her French country-style home is another hobby. Now that her three sons, Michael, Marty and Nicholas, are older and on their own, she gets to keep the house a little more "frou- frou," she said.
Spending time with her 15-month-old grandson, Cody, is an activity that "Nana" loves; her second grandchild is due in March.
Time with family is a major component of Young's life.
From their wedding day, when she walked down the aisle with a fever of 102 degrees and was hospitalized afterward with the flu, Young and her husband, Larry, have been blessed with a great family, she said.
Her daughters-in-law, Jessica and Ashley, add to the family joy, she said.
Because Nicholas is a manager at Blue Bell, ice-cream taster is one of her jobs. Lemon Ice Box Pie is her favorite flavor right now.
Most of her family resides near her hometown of Pascagoula, Miss. Young moved to Aiken with her husband in 1989.
She became North Augusta's city clerk in 1999. Her main job is to keep records.
"I am here to serve the citizens," she said.
Young said she loves her job.
"I am very happy here," she said. "I can't imagine doing anything different."
Being a part of North Augusta's growth is an aspect of her job that she enjoys.
During her career, Young has seen the retail space surrounding Wal-Mart expand and Mossy Creek Elementary School go up and is looking forward to moving into the new municipal building on Georgia Avenue.
"I think the whole city is just beautiful," she said. "The people here care about North Augusta."
