New contract holder to begin SRS takeover
Savannah River Nuclear Solutions began taking over operations at Savannah River Site on Friday.
The change came at the end of a 90-day transition from previous management and operations contract holder Washington Savannah River Co. A team of 18 has taken over as senior managers, including Savannah River Nuclear Solutions CEO Chuck Munns.
About 6,100 employees will work under the new contract, according to Solutions spokesman Jim Gaver. Fewer than 2 percent of Washington Savannah River Co. employees declined offers to remain at the site. The new management structure will focus on conduct operations, according to Gaver.
Area colleges begin fall registration
Registration for Aiken Technical College is 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday. Classes begin Aug. 18.
Registration for the University of South Carolina Aiken will be held Aug. 19. Transfer, transient and re-admit students will register from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and new students will register noon to 5 p.m. First day of classes is Aug. 21.
