A revival of the Yellow Jacket Open Golf Tournament brought in almost $2,000 for North Augusta High School athletics last week.

After more than six years without the tournament, the school's booster club decided to resurrect the tournament this year as a way for coaches and parents to fellowship on the golf course.

"We were very pleased with the turnout," said Rick Meyer, the booster club president.

"We didn't go out and push for sponsorship because we're also working on the football program, but we had 13 teams," he said.

The tournament raised $1,925, half of which will go to football, Meyer said.

The other half will go toward purchasing an athletic bus.

Placing first in low gross, Rod Greenway, Happy Greenway, Glenn Hurt and Jamie Felder won in a scorecard playoff.

The team beat out the "young guns" Lance Johnson, Brett Johnson, Trey Meyer and Matt NeSmith. Both teams were 56, 15 under par.

Felder also posted the longest drive of the tournament.

Meyer said he hopes the coming years will become a big draw for athletes, coaches and the community.
