Man charged with reckless driving

Police arrested a North Augusta man on traffic charges after, they say, he evaded officers and crashed into a tree.

Officers say they tried to stop John Andrew Strychalski, 41, of the 100 block of Chalet North Court, on July 18 after he made a wide turn from Knox Avenue onto Bradleyville Road, almost striking a police car.

Strychalski led officers on a chase through the parking lot of Pine Crest Apartments and then through Chalet North Apartments before he lost control of the vehicle and hit a tree and a fence.

Strychalski then ran into his apartment. Officers found him lying in the bed of an upstairs bedroom.

He is charged with failure to stop for blue lights and siren, leaving the scene of an accident and reckless driving.

Two men beat up driver in parking lot

Two men assaulted a North Augusta man as he was sitting in his truck at Wendy's last week.

The 44-year-old man had pulled to the rear of the restaurant on Martintown Road to answer his cell phone when two men opened both his doors and hit him in the head.

The assailants stole the driver's wallet, cell phone, pocket knife, money and the keys to his truck before running away.

No arrests have been made in the assault.
