North Augusta adopts smoking ban

North Augusta City Council unanimously voted tonight to pass a smoking ordinance.
The ban will go into effect at noon Aug. 1.
Smoking is not regulated in private residences, lodging rooms designated for smoking, tobacco stores, outdoor areas of employment and private clubs when there are no employees working.
Smoking is prohibited in places of employment, outdoor dining areas, indoor and outdoor public facilities and within 10 feet of a nonsmoking establishment.
North Augusta Department of Public Safety will begin enforcing $10 to $25 penalties Aug. 1 to those who choose to light up in smoke-free zones.
