Aiken County seeks man in attack, theft

Aiken County investigators hold arrest warrants for a Graniteville man accused of attacking a motorist in North Augusta and stealing his truck.

Joseph E. Rowe, 24, will be charged with assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature, carjacking and two counts of financial transaction card theft.

According to a statement from sheriff's Lt. Michael Frank, a man approached the victim at an ATM outside Kangaroo Express at U.S. Highway 25 and Belvedere-Clearwater Road at about 4:45 a.m. Monday and asked for a ride.

The victim, a North Augusta man, drove the man to Beth Shalom synagogue on Atomic Road, where the assailant pushed him out and drove away, Lt. Frank said.

Later that day, the Richmond County Sheriff's Office recovered the 1994 Ford Ranger at Dugas and Harrison streets in Augusta, the statement said.

Lt. Frank said surveillance video shows 41-year-old Terry L. Hanna, of North Augusta, using the victim's credit card at four stores in Richmond County between 6:30 and 9 a.m. Each time, he drove away in the stolen truck, Lt. Frank said.

On Wednesday, the Columbia County Sheriff's Office arrested Mr. Hanna, who faces charges in Richmond County of using stolen credit cards.
