Councilman Whinghter will challenge Ryberg

North Augusta City Council-man Jason Whinghter has announced he will challenge state Sen. Greg Ryberg for his District 24 seat. Whinghter, 31, filed his paperwork Saturday and will face off with Ryberg in the June 10 Republican primary.

The municipal building on Georgia Avenue in North Augusta begins to take shape. Last week's construction added rafters to the building. When completed, the building will house city offices.

Construction crews work on the steel frame of the new North Augusta Municipal Building. The city is planning a "topping off" ceremony at 11:30 a.m. today to celebrate the placement of the highest piece of the building's structure. The event will feature a barbecue lunch.
