Posted: October 4, 2017 - 12:28am
Bodies of 69-year-old John Ennis and Sabrina D. Mikell, 38, were found in Ennis’ house on Old Graniteville Highway after a fire was extinguished.

The bodies of a man and woman were found in a house that burned Saturday night on Old Graniteville Highway in Aiken County.

The victims were identified as 69-year-old John Ennis, the homeowner, and Sabrina D. Mikell, 38, who also apparently lived in the home, according to Coroner Tim Carlton.

The home fire alarm went off at 8:47 p.m., but the origin of the fire was still under investigation Sunday. Aiken County Sheriff Michael Hunt and several deputies were on the scene Sunday afternoon. Hunt said the ongoing investigation had not determined a cause of the fire.

A man who identified himself as Ennis' nephew and other family members said they didn't know how the fire might have started and declined further comment.

Autopsies were scheduled for Monday in Newberry.
