Man indicted in fatal stabbing

A man accused of stabbing a woman to death in her Augusta apartment in front of her children has been indicted.

Nathan Mims, 46, of North Augusta, faces charges of murder and possession of a knife during the commission of a crime in the April 28 slaying of 43-year-old Natty Ortiz-Ramos.

Ortiz-Ramos’ roommate and children told sheriff’s investigators that her screams woke them and they found Mims on top of Ortiz-Ramos, punching her in the face. The children tried to save their mother, they told investigators, but Mims broke free and stabbed her to death.

Woman arrested
for smoking meth

A Warrenville woman was arrested for smoking meth in a gas station bathroom on Thursday.

North Augusta officers were called to Circle K, 1014 Edgefield Road, around 2:45 a.m. after the woman had been at the location for about two hours and in the restroom for 30 minutes.

According to an incident report, the woman, later identified as Terra Nicole Allen, 30, came out of the restroom but immediately returned upon seeing the officer. The officer said Allen flushed the toilet several times before exiting and telling him she was having stomach issues.

The officer found the toilet water moving but he did not find “anything indicative of the bathroom recently being used for its intended purposes.”

The officer located a glass smoking device and a small bag of crystal methamphetamine hidden in a trash can. The officer said Allen immediately said, “That’s not mine,” and “I don’t smoke meth,” before he even asked her about the drugs.

She later admitted to using drugs in the restroom. She also told the officer she had flushed a pill down the toilet.

Allen was booked into the Aiken County Detention Center on charges of possession of methamphetamine and disorderly conduct.

Man tells police rental car stolen

An Augusta man told police his rental vehicle was stolen from a gas station Wednesday.

The 22-year-old victim told police he last saw the Dodge SUV when he left it near the gas pumps while he went into Greg’s Gas Plus, 6043 Jefferson Davis Highway, around 6 a.m. An incident report stated the vehicle had been left unlocked with the ignition on.

A woman who works at the store told police she was outside when she observed a black man hop into the vehicle and speed away toward Interstate 520. She said the man had a white shirt covering his face.
