A 33-year-old man drowned in the Savannah River on Saturday afternoon while fishing near North Augusta, authorities say.
The body of Toyian R. Williams was recovered about 5:30 p.m. by the Richmond County Dive Team, Aiken County Coroner Tim Carlton said.
Carlton said Williams was with a friend who called 911 about 1:45 p.m. after Williams slipped beneath some rocks after entering the water.
Toxicology tests are pending. Foul play isn’t suspected.
Burned body discovered
The death of a man whose body was found burned in the backyard of a North Augusta home last week was ruled a suicide, officials said Monday.
Aiken County Coroner Tim Carlton said Charles D. McCarthy III was positively identified after the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office compared finger prints.
McCarthy was found dead by his mother in the backyard of his home in the 800 block of Shawnee Drive Friday.
