Poetic Praise: David's Mule-Shake It Off

Back | Next

A dumb old mule fell in a hole

And he could not climb out

He heard the farmer calling him

And he’d scream and curse and shout

The old mule tried with all his might

To climb out from the side

The farmer said, you just give up

I’m burying you alive

He shoveled dirt on that old mule

And he would shake it off

For miles you’d hear him braying

With a sneeze and with a cough

Then he’d step up upon the dirt

That had been shoveled in

Another pile of dirt would come

And he’d shake it off again

Well this went on for a quite a while

Shake it off ’til escape is found

For when enough dirt fell in

He stepped out on level ground

The moral of this story is

That dirt will come your way

Shake it off, step up, and try again

And you’ll see another day
