Seaman Colleen E.Kennedy, a 2010 Fox Creek High School graduate, is serving in the U.S. Navy as part of a crew working aboard the San Diego-based guided missile destroyer USS Higgins (DDG 76), one of the country's multi-mission combat ships. The ship returned in October from a nine-month deployment to the Middle East and Southeast Asia. While deployed, the ship and its crew of more than 250 sailors conducted operations with the USS Nimitz (CVN 68) Carrier Strike Group and took part in a number of exercises, theater security cooperation events, and maritime presence operations with partner nations. "I love the Navy," said Kennedy. "I never thought I'd be on a ship, and it's very cool. I'm like a big kid in the candy store. I am given the opportunity to travel and see things I would never been able to see." SPECIAL Senior Chief Mass Communication Specialist Gary Ward
