Mount Vintage Plantation Golf Club closes

Posted: February 11, 2014 - 5:24pm

Mount Vintage Plantation Golf Club closed Friday, and the future of the club is unknown.

The golf course, restaurant and town center closed effective 2 p.m., according to Mount Vintage residents who received a memo.

Mike Hooker, who has been a Mount Vintage resident since 2003, bought the golf club Aug. 1, 2011, from Mount Vintage Development Co. LLC. The club off Sweetwater Road in Edgefield County nearly closed in 2010 before Hooker stepped in.

Hooker didn’t return phone messages Friday afternoon seeking comment.

Ryan Mulvey, director of golf at Mount Vintage, declined to comment.

The original 18-hole course designed by Tom Jackson opened in 2000. In 2008, a third nine, also designed by Jackson, opened for play.

Mount Vintage has played host to numerous professional, amateur and junior golf tournaments in the past, including the LPGA Tour’s Asahi Ryokuken International and the NGA Tour’s Kandy Waters Memorial Classic.
