SRS public tours
Registration for the 2014 Savannah River Site public tour program begins Monday.
The driving tours will start at 12:30 p.m. at the Aiken County Applied Research Center with an overview presentation about the site and a safety briefing and end around 4:30 p.m.
The tours are free; participants must be U.S. citizens at least 18 years old.
There are 22 tour dates with about 50 spots available for each. Dates are: Jan. 16 and 28; Feb. 13 and 25; March 11 and 25; April 15 and 22; May 6 and 15; June 3 and 17; July 8 and 24; Aug. 5 and 21; Sept. 9 and 18; Oct. 7 and 23; Nov. 11; and Dec. 9.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Savannah District is accepting used live Christmas trees through Jan. 8.
Trees can be dropped off at Riverside Middle School, 1095 Furys Ferry Road in Evans. All decorations should be removed. Artificial trees aren’t accepted.
The trees will be placed throughout Thurmond Lake to improve the fishing habitat, and trees will be placed at select boat ramps.
