Poetic Praise: To Count My Blessings

When pilgrims walked upon this land so many years ago

They paused to thank the Lord above for blessings He’d bestowed

Their lives then were not easy and hardships that they faced

But down on bended knees, they fell to thank God for His grace

And they chose to band together, they sought the favor of God

And hid His word in their hearts, He was there each step they trod

Through trials and tribulations, through cold and bitter storms

Through hearts that beat for freedom, this country, America was born

For this then is our heritage, we must never let it die

This land then stands for freedom, that is our battle cry

People die to reach that freedom from other foreign shores

And yet somehow my America stands for so much more

But now we must move forward when we face uncertain times

Our values have eroded; there are problems that are yours and mine

So then where are our answers? Can we come together again?

Could we evoke the love from God if we turned away from sin?

Oh God, I’m thankful for this land, for my church and for my home

For all my friends and family and for all you let me own

And I know life is a journey and the days and miles we face

Are surely small in numbers to eternity and your grace
