Colonial Cleaners burglarized
A North Augusta Public Safety officer interrupted a burglary in progress Nov. 5 and a suspect was arrested.
According to an incident report, the officer was patrolling the area of Old Edgefield Road and Weston Street around 3:45 a.m. when he saw the metal door to Colonial Cleaners open.
When the officer checked on the business, two men wearing all-black clothing came out and ran to the back of the building toward Skyview Drive. Other officers joined in the pursuit of the men and one suspect, identified as Johnnie Lee Bailey Jr., of the 1900 block of Gay Drive in Augusta, was found hiding under a storage shed on Frances Street. The second man wasn’t located, according to the report.
The business’ metal door was pried open and the metal glass to the second door was broken. The cash register was also damaged and the cash drawer was pulled out. There was some loose change left in the register and on the floor.
During a further search, officers found a black Halloween mask, black skull cap, a black glove with $60 in it, and two pry bars in the woods between Skyview and Yardley drives.
Bailey, 28, was charged with burglary second degree and possession of burglary tools, the report stated.
