Art at River's Edge: It's a busy time in the art world

This was a busy month for me art- wise.

In my last column, I wrote about Clay Artist of the South East, which is on exhibit at the Arts and Heritage Center of North Augusta. It is a beautiful exhibit and worth your time to stop in and view. Be sure to get there soon, because it will be gone by the end of the month.

Then the North Augusta Artist Guild will be exhibiting its Fall into Art Exhibit through November and December. This is the award exhibit where you get to see who wins the different awards when you go into view the exhibit. Be sure to stop in the gift shop because the holidays are rapidly coming up on us.

On Sept. 14, Starters: Selection from the Wells Fargo & Co. Collection went on display at the Morris Museum of Art. Photos by Greg Kinney went on display; and he was the guest speaker at the September lunch at the Morris.  His works are outstanding. Friday is Art at Lunch at the Morris Museum. It will feature The Art of Glass husband and wife team Richard Jolley and Tommie Rush as speakers.

Sept. 26, Thomas and I went to Columbia and stopped at the One Eared Cow Glass Studio for a live glass-blowing demonstration, then we toured two of Columbia’s most historic properties – the Robert Mills House and Gardens and the Hampton-Preston Mansion. Both homes were beautiful and I learned so much about each family and how the Wade Hampton home was tied to the Hampton Terrace Hotel here in North Augusta. The trip was a real joy for us as we got to sit back and relax and let the driver deal with the traffic, plus we got to see the downtown area and walk the Vista area and see the shops and restaurants. We had lunch at the Blue Marlin and the food was super. We will be sure to take another bus tour whenever possible with The Morris Museum group.

Did you get to the Art in the Heart this year? If not, you missed a really great event and the entertainment was super.

I can say the food was good as well.

The weather was good, other than rain toward the end of Saturday evening.

It was fun seeing all the people and how much they were enjoying the event.

The Art and Heritage Center of North Augusta will have a luncheon Nov. 14 with guest speaker Chef Marcel Biro from Edger’s Grill in Augusta, who will cater this new and exciting event for the AHC. Master Chef Biro has done a reality-cooking series The Kitchens of Biro, for PBS.

The AHC will be offering cook books by Brio at this event.

For more information about the luncheon, contact the AHC at (803) 441-4380.

My art will be on display at Georgia Regents University in November and December in the west entrance on the second floor of the hospital near the lab.

I hope you will go by and view my work.

I look forward to your comments about them.

Don’t forget to check out the Artists of the Month art at businesses throughout the North Augusta area.
