Man arrested in attempted robbery
A 20-year-old Augusta man was arrested Sept. 23 in connection to an attempted robbery of a Papa John’s Pizza employee.
According to a North Augusta Public Safety incident report, the employee was taking a break close to 11 p.m. outside of the restaurant at 217 Edgefield Road when a man, later identified as Chauncy Pierre Johnson of the 1600 block of McCauley Street, approached him and asked for a cigarette.
After receiving a cigarette, Johnson asked where the money was and when the victim stated that he didn’t have any money, Johnson then moved his jacket back showing a gun and asked “do you want to die tonight”, the victim told officers.
Johnson continued to demand that the victim empty his pockets, which the victim refused. Johnson eventually left the area.
He was found a short time later in an unlocked storage unit at North Augusta Storage Units, according to the report.
Johnson was arrested and charged with robbery/armed or alleged with deadly weapon.
Woman reports purse snatching
A North Augusta woman reported to North Augusta Public Safety that her purse was snatched around 10 p.m. Sept. 20 while she was exiting her car at Kroger, 1284 Knox Ave.
The 43-year-old woman stated a white male came from behind her, snatched the purse and ran towards Knox Avenue.
Officers were unable to locate the suspect.
