Well, here we are at the middle of the year. Boy did those six months fly by.
As you know, I am the president of the North Augusta Artists Guild. I am also on the board of directors at the Arts and Heritage Center, where I serve on the exhibit committee and the jury committee and head up the Tuesday Painters group, which meets each week to paint and socialize with other artists and anyone who is interested in the arts.
This group is open to anyone who would like to try their hand at painting or drawing or just wants to come in and watch us paint. We have supplies on hand, so please come in and join us. We are a fun group. We bring a lunch and have a good time together from 11 a.m. to about 2 p.m.
This month we had the “Artisans Market and What’s in Your Attic” assessment event on June 8 at the Arts and Heritage Center. We had some really unique items brought in to be assessed, and most were surprised at how valuable their items were, including myself. I was one of the artists who had their artwork for sale. If you missed it this time, be sure to check out upcoming events.
We will be setting up the next exhibit the last two weeks of June. This one is on the history of entertainment that North Augusta has enjoyed from the 1800s to now.
You will see many types of entertainment that our community has enjoyed throughout the years. Some young people will not have heard of many of the games or know how they were played or what you needed to enjoy this form of entertainment. So mark your calendar for this exhibit.
The Arts and Heritage Center Birthday Bash will be July 12 from 6-9 p.m. at the Palmetto Terrace on the fourth floor of the North Augusta Municipal Building. Tickets cost $10 per person. The event will feature bluegrass and blues with music by Flo Carter, The Henrys and McKenna Hydrick. The Savannah River Strings and the CSRA Shag Club will also perform. A birthday cake contest by local bakers and an auction will also take place as a fundraiser event for the Arts and Heritage Center.
Don’t forget to check out the Artist of the Month at the following businesses: Arts and Heritage Center, North Augusta Today newspaper, Greater North Augusta Chamber of Commerce office, North Augusta Family Y, Beveled Edge Gallery and Framing, Jim Bush Flowers, Special Effects Hair Studio, Men’s Refinery Barbershop and Quality Printing.
