The American Legion Auxiliary Department of South Carolina held its 2013 convention Thursday through Sunday in Greenville, S.C. The American Legion Auxiliary Jesse C. Lynch Memorial Unit 71 received five certificates of participation, seven certificates of appreciation, first place for the Cavalcade of Memories report, second place for community service and national security and third place for VA and R report. Unit 71 member Ollie Tolbert was elected and installed as president of District 4 and Linda Smiley was elected and installed as the 2013-14 Department president. Free shag workshop

A free shag workshop for children ages 7 to 17 will be held June 15 at the Family Y of North Augusta.

The workshop will be held from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. and will be taught by Johnny and Judy Turner.

Summerfield School Reunion

The annual Summerfield School Reunion Luncheon will be held at noon June 13 at Ryan’s Family Steakhouse, 1275 Knox Ave.

Teachers, principals, maintenance workers and former students who worked or attended Summerfield School are invited to attend.

Department gets new vehicles

North Augusta Public Safety received six 2013 Chevrolet Tahoes recently and are currently equipping each for patrol duties.

The vehicles were chosen for their fuel economy, price and capacity to store mandated first responder equipment, which includes bunker gear, medical
kits, AEDs, hazardous-
material protective
equipment, computers, in-car video equipment and rifles with additional ammunition. SWAT officers also carry their gear.
